About HyperGender Burlesque

HyperGender began with a hope and a dream....and on Saturday April 14th 2007...that dream became a reality.  As burlesque is getting more and more mainstreamed and as "post" is new "neo" we are proud to be the first post-neo-burlesque show.

HyperGender's mission is to titillate you, taunt you and tease you with a different variety of political and performance art. This is not your average burlesque show as it features video, drag, and performance art.

We are a monthly THEME review that features new and established burlesque performers, videographers, poets, sideshow artists and the pulse of NYC's underground artist community. Our themes range from shakespeare, masturbation and the ever famed Seven Deadly Sins.

HyperGender is housed at historic WOW Cafe Theatre in the heart of NYC's East Village. The show is rated NC-17 for full frontal nudity and other things that bump in the night. We are daring for a reason, provocative because we have too....we want to show the NYC is still raw, edgy and beautiful all at the same time.  This is a direct answer to Disneyfication of New York City.

A big reason for performers to come to us is our willingness and ability to offer complete creative freedom in a safe environment. This allows a free platform for exchange of ideas with no limits and boundaries. HyperGender encourages acts that are controversial, smart, and most importantly, ART! We strive to create this each and every month.

The producers of this monthly event are N and JZ Bich, please scroll down for more information about these wonderful and shocking performers.

N is the undisputed NC-17 of burlesque and a queer, schizophrenic, anti-social mad scientist genius with a mind so dark and x-rated that she will captivate and scare you all at the same time! Her deadly works of performance art are political, scary and most importantly leaves you thinking. She provokes issues through her art and is not afraid to cross boundaries.

She is a co-founder and co-producer of HyperGender Burlesque, a monthly themed queer cabaret that can only be described as Gritty, Dirty, Sexy Performance Art.

Her work ranging from art installations, art modeling and burlesque has graced the pages of Jane Magazine, Real Sex 32, Fuse's Pants Off Dance Off, The Great Detectives DVD set, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Vamprye Lounge, as well as her work with HyperGender Burlesque being featured in GO Magazine and Time Out NY.

She has performed all throughout NYC from reviews such as BadAss Burlesque, Starshine Burlesque, Red Hots Burlesque, Kitty Nights, Lucky Fridays, The 2007 Rubber Ball, BYTE, SMACK, Baroness Fetish Retinue as well as famous venues such as The Slipper Room, Coney Island & Festivals like The 2007 Boston Burlesque Expo and the 2007 Coney Island Rockabilly Festival.

JZ Bich is a multifaceted international artist provocateur. She was born and raised in the Balkans but hails NYC her home. Jasmina has produced several festivals, plays and burlesque series at WOW Cafe Theatre and elsewhere. Village Voice commented her work with the Barbarians Burlesque Company as something that "might just help us save our sanity."

JZ Bich has been performing all over New York City since 2003. She's known on two continents and in four countries.  In the summer of 2007 she MC'd the Pride Fest in Zagreb, Croatia following the Zagreb Pride Parade.  She performed at Rififi's, Joe's Pub, Slipper Room, HERE, Bar on A, Club Midway, Delancy Lounge, Cattyshack, Bar 13 for Snapshot, and more.
